Tehran is prepared to restart atomic discussions with Washington as long as it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi stated solely negotiations produced results, and revealed recent overtures had originated from go-betweens to resume talks with the US government. He claimed Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Iran could not yet permit the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit attacked atomic facilities for safety concerns.

Walking a Difficult Route

Araghchi is treading a challenging path since Iran does not want be seen to be operating from a position of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out stronger in military terms and psychologically from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.

He was speaking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an absolute privilege to refine atomic fuel within its borders that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the prior discussions.

Earlier Discussions Unexpectedly Terminated

The prior phases of discussions between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and hostile termination on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, targeted Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that ended with the US president asserting the locations had been destroyed. Afterward, EU nations employed their right to reinstate international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a substantial consequence.

Perfect Agreement Suggested

Iran's diplomats stated they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could process nuclear material. Both sides would have been able to claim victory since local refinement would have persisted and the US could be certain that Iran's nuclear programme was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been agreed in the talks that American atomic experts could work on Iranian soil, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. Officials stated repeatedly they had reached agreement with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the arrangement to disintegrate due to "detractors in America".

Current Status

Tehran representatives said the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the offer could be revived in various formats if talks resume.

The American leader last week stated he had been obtaining communications that Iran desired to reopen negotiations, but privately Iran's diplomats say they are not yet receiving consistent overtures from Washington either explicitly or from significant local go-betweens, such as the Qatari government, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been accused of inactivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran states diplomacy is not part of a spectacle.

Negotiating Stance

In his address to the gathering, intended to paint the US as a hegemonic power that abuses the notion of worldwide standards, the foreign minister stated the fortnight-long engagement showed the clash could not be ended by military means. He stated the strikes commenced with a US demand for an total Iran submission and ended with an complete request for a ceasefire.

Iran is certain the first strikes by Israel were carried out with full US knowledge and cooperation, making faith challenging to reestablish.

Negotiations Remains the Final Answer

The foreign minister declared: "Tehran was not the one that had deserted diplomacy; it was America and the Western nations that had repeatedly attempted to enforce their desires during the discussions. Negotiations can still be viable and remains the ultimate answer to resolve disagreements, but its requirements, rules and principles must be respected."

In what is portrayed by Iran's diplomats as the battle of repair and recovery, the foreign minister stated he was assured Iran's military capacities "are considerably enhanced than before 13 or 14 June of this year. Our entire military infrastructure have been restored. We learned multiple understandings from this engagement; we have identified our internal vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of the opponent."

He continued: "We managed to survive this conflict. Our nuclear technology, which they planned to obliterate, continues to exist. The sites and machinery, if damaged, will be reconstructed; what is essential is the resolve of the nation of Iran and then the social solidarity that they sought to undermine, but failed to destroy. The citizens of Tehran have developed more resilient, more cohesive, and more backing of the government and the nation in the wake of this assault."
