Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
