Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
